Reef Rescue ’05 in La Jolla, CA on Nov. 19 a Success!

On a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon on November 19, 2005, over 80 people from the San Diego area joined Reef Check at a lovely La Jolla estate to support Reef Check’s new California Rocky Reef Monitoring Program.

The weather for Reef Rescue 2005 was awesome and so was the food kindly donated by Hamilton Meats & Provision (deliciously prepared at the scene by Chef Chris Mesa), the Bare Back Grill, and the amazing desert options offered by the Chocolate Monkey’s popular dipping fountain. Guests toasted the classic California sunset with fine drinks sponsored by Rodnik Vodka and local favorite Stone Brewing Co. Excellent live music was provided by the beautiful longboard surf champion and international recording artist, Daize Shayne, and her manager/guitarist Ken Tamplin.

Reef Check Executive Director, Dr. Gregor Hodgson enlightened the guests about the plight of the world’s reefs and what they can do to help along with RC Staff members Dr. Craig Shuman, Scott Sheckman, Chris Knight, and Bob Foster whose family (Dr. Virginia Foster and Rev. Arthur Hammons) generously opened their home for the party.

Reef Check thanks our event sponsors, and everyone who helped make this event a success on all levels, especially San Diego Event Chairperson Mary Ellen Bloomingdale (and her lovely poodles), former Reef Check/Quiksilver Crossing scientist Dovi Kacev, Leslie Abelow-Sheckman, Eric Lane, Tina Metzger, Paul Barry, Pat Zabrocki, and Jim Dujowich of Western Radio for the fabulous sound system.

More fabulous fundraising and awareness events are being planned in California and around the world for 2006. Please check the RC website and upcoming newsletters for announcements!
