Reef Check’s Kelp Forest Monitoring training classes for 2022 are now open for registration, providing ten opportunities in California, Oregon and Washington for divers to get involved as citizen scientists.
Each training consists of four roughly ninety-minute Zoom calls focusing on discussion and interactive activities. Between weekly calls, you will be required to complete a range of homework assignments, including reading the manual and practicing with flashcards, watching recordings of lectures, and completing quizzes. This is followed by pool and field sessions where you’ll get in the water and practice putting your newly acquired identification and scientific survey knowledge to the test!
Training scholarships are available for divers from diverse backgrounds; visit our scholarship page to find the application and more information. Scholarships are made possible through generous donations– thank you for your support in increasing the number of volunteers able to participate!
