Thank you to SeaDoc Society for funding six new science projects in 2026, including our efforts to improve kelp monitoring. They are investing nearly $270,000 in research to better understand and protect the Salish Sea.

The event will feature award-winning filmmaker Natasha Benjamin (Sequoias of the Sea) and author David Helvarg (Forest of the Sea) for an evening devoted to the world’s underwater forests.
Reef Check’s Kelp Forest Program Director, Dan Abbott, will also join the event to provide the scientific perspective on what’s happening in California’s kelp forests.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is hosting two open house events to help inform priority kelp and eelgrass habitats in South Puget Sound.
These discussions will contribute to the 10,000-acre conservation and recovery goal, Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 79.135.440, which is the native kelp forest and eelgrass meadow health/conservation plan.
