Recently, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot spoke at the Cal Academy, which included a segment on kelp forests!
Politicians are speaking about this often-ignored, yet essential ecosystem, and we couldn’t be happier.
Data collection, education, restoration, and sharing stories of reefs around the world are all part of the Reef Check mission. We’ve recorded and shared data on kelp decline for years, but it seems the message is finally reaching bigger audiences.
Thank you @cagovernor and @wade.crowfoot for bringing awareness to our kelp forests in California!

We’re wrapping up the survey season in the Pacific Northwest, but that doesn’t mean our work is over for the year!
Every new season leads to a shift in activity. Although we love our in-water time, the ‘dry’ work we do makes our efforts effective.
If you joined us for surveying in Washington this year, check your email and join us for the end-of-season party!
Having a little bit of FOMO? Join us for Reef Check training next year, and see what the hype is all about.
