New internship opportunities are now open at Monterey Bay Aquarium!
They are recruiting motivated students and early-career scientists for paid kelp forest internships focused on research, scientific diving, and real-world conservation.
Interns will support efforts to understand and restore California’s kelp forests through hands-on lab work, field surveys, and scuba-based research along the Monterey Peninsula.
Applications close February 7, 2026. Learn more and apply through the link in our bio.

The songbirds of our Coastal Canary Project are Reef Check’s small but tough temperature loggers. The loggers monitor temperature fluctuations every ten minutes.
Each one is fixed with a stainless steel bolt into the rocky reef about 12 m (40 ft) deep. The sensors tough out 12-month deployments before they’re retrieved and swapped out with fresh units to continue the mission.
Staff and volunteers support this effort, so if you become a Reef Check diver, you may be able to participate in this project!
