Reef Check has reached a significant milestone! Th Reef Check has reached a significant milestone! Thanks to *25 years* of hard work from our volunteer EcoDivers we now have more than 15,000 coral reef surveys in our global database! The data are analyzed and used locally by marine park managers, nationally by fisheries and environment managers, and internationally by organizations, including United Nations agencies, to help better track and care for coral reefs.

Key finding: After removing urchins, Reef Check divers in Noyo Bay documented a positive increase in kelp densities over 15 months at the restoration area!
Awesome news from Tankers Reef! All that hard wor Awesome news from Tankers Reef!

All that hard work culling urchins has paid off. According to our most recent survey, the density of giant kelp went from just over 12 stipes per transect to almost 50 stipes per transect and urchins stayed way below the two per meter threshold. No changes were observed at the control site.

Congrats to Keith Rootsaert and all the Giant Giant Kelp Restoration Project volunteer divers who put in the hard work culling urchins! And to all the Reef Check divers who volunteered their time to collect this important data so that it can be shared with all of you!
