Did you know there is a bill in the WA State House to designate Bull Kelp as Washington’s official state marine forest?!
❗️Why is this important? By naming bull kelp forests as a state symbol—the official marine forest of the state of Washington—the legislature can raise awareness of the importance of these habitats to the state’s identity, culture, and ecology. The legislature will also help boost momentum for efforts to restore bull kelp forests, build a resilient and sustainable marine environment, and thereby better secure the well-being of both natural and human communities for years to come.
What can you do? Show your support for the bill that would designate bull kelp forests as Washington’s official state marine forest (HB 1631), by signing in *pro* before 12:30pm PST today (Tuesday 2/4). Link in bio.
The bill will be heard (Tuesday @1:30pm) so this is time sensitive! Please share with your dive community and anyone who also loves kelp!
