@reefcheckmalaysia has launched a new interactive reef health map that turns years of community science into real-time insights for conservation.
Built from surveys at more than 300 reef sites and powered by data collected by over 1,000 trained volunteer divers, this platform shows coral health trends, fish and invertebrate sightings, and location-based changes over time. Every data point is carefully verified using GPS coordinates and reviewed by marine scientists to ensure its accuracy.
This is what community science looks like in action. Data that guides protection, supports reef recovery, informs management decisions, and helps determine when reefs need a break to heal. It is proof that when people come together with purpose, technology becomes a tool for hope.
Curious how this map works and how technology is reshaping coral conservation around the world?

Our volunteer divers are pretty much cold plunging all season while they do the work of surveying dive sites, maintaining sensors, or helping with restoration projects. So now we’re asking you to cold plunge to help us continue this work.
What are we talking about?
Our friends at @surffur are hosting the Reef Check Freeze Off, a community event and fundraiser to raise awareness and money for our ocean conservation efforts.
Is this the first time you’re hearing of it? See details about how to participate at our link in bio.
Be brave. We know you can do it.
