KPMG Gets Reef Check Certified in Malaysia

On August 26, 2007, KPMG, a leading audit, tax and advisory firm in Malaysia, held its second Charity Run event, which was organized as part of the annual KPMG Community Day initiative. This year, KPMG campaigned for greater awareness and support of reef conservation in Malaysia, and as such decided to donate net proceeds to the cause of Reef Check Malaysia. Within three weeks, RM20,000 was raised through an internal campaign of its staff for this cause. The Run was flagged off at the firm’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur where about 300 people ran the set course.
The proceeds were channeled to Reef Check Malaysia’s Corporate “Adopt A Reef” programme, where six KPMG staff were trained to be EcoDivers. This is the first time KPMG has engaged in such an initiative and the successful certification of its staff in October 2007 was a significant moment for the firm.
