Connecting with communities and building hope are key factors in ramping up climate efforts.
Over 50 people turned out for the Ocean Hoptimism event at Faction Brewing in California last month on the topic of kelp forests. The speakers were Natasha Benjamin and David Helvarg from Blue Frontier, an ocean policy nonprofit.
Reef Check also participated in the event! Our team shared how scuba divers can help kelp forests by collecting scientific data. Long-term data, in turn, reveals the health status of local reef systems over time.
We’re always sharing about upcoming events on our stories. Add @reefcheckfoundation as one of your favorites so you don’t miss the next one!

Conditions are shaping up to make it possible to survey Half Moon Bay this weekend! We’ve opened sign-ups, so if you’re a Reef Check Diver in California, join us to gather data at this little-visited area.
These are unique survey sites with relatively rare weather windows, which allow us to complete this work. It’s always rewarding to get out there and get the job done.
