THIS is what Reef Check California is doing to combat the worry.
There was a need for more information on the loss of kelp forests, so local Reef Check teams are training volunteer divers to help gather information. Science and diving go hand in hand to allow entire communities to come together and work on data-backed solutions for this urchin barren problem.

Our Big Sur kelp forest restoration project is crucial for understanding the trajectory of all kelp forests along the California coast.
It’s some of the most pristine coastline. However, urchin barrens are popping up, threatening the health of the kelp forest ecosystem.

❌GHOST NETS ❌
@reefcheckmalaysia removed 100kg of ghost nets stuck on coral reefs off Sabah’s Mantanani Island!
Do you know what ghost nets are? They are fishing nets, abandoned or thrown away at sea, left to throttle reefs, and entangle marine life.
Luckily, surveying efforts from Reef Check Malaysia located the ghost nets, and the dive team removed the waste before more harm was inflicted on the reef and its inhabitants.
Way to go, team!
