This week`s Reef Rendezvous features travels of the talented @ian.uhalt.images 📸 The backstories to all of these images paints a picture on the importance of protecting reefs and collecting reef health data.
1. Coral reef in Bora Bora
This was a patch of new coral head near where I stayed in Bora Bora. It is one of the most protected lagoons I have ever seen. This shot was at sunrise while most of the reef fish were still tucked away in their holes.
2. Heteractis magnifica Moorea
This is a patch of magnificent anemones near shore in Moorea. In the shallows we can find fields of these large and beautiful anemones.
3. Catalina Island, Dominican Republic
This was both an amazing and a sad dive. Due to the corruption in government and the impact of the drug trade, many areas of the reefs are unprotected. We saw numerous coral and sea fans knocked over.
4. Costa Rica
This was on a little sea mount off the coast of Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica. The reef was very distressed, but the fish life here was abundant, including this very friendly French Angelfish.
5. Catalina Island, Dominican Republic
Another amazing yet sad dive. We would see beautiful coral heads like this one, and twenty feet away was one torn up by a boat anchor.
