Reefs and kelp forests are climate heroes — protecting them is one of the most effective ways you can make a real difference.
If science has taught us anything, it’s that the world’s oceans are filled with magical, amazing life. A mantis shrimp’s punch clocks in at around 50 mph. Dolphin superpods have daycares. There’s even a jellyfish that can revert to a younger, polyp form of itself after it’s fully grown. The flora and fauna of the blue world are simply amazing. But none of that amazing exists without healthy reefs, healthy kelp forests, and you. Which is where Reef Check comes in.
The beautiful, wild and amazing creatures that live in the ocean need a healthy ocean in which to live. And nothing’s better at keeping their (and our) existence existing than reefs and kelp forests. So whether it’s a donation or a dive, when you help Reef Check, you’re helping all the Amazing that lives in the ocean. Because even though Amazing can form underwater daycares for working dolphin families, Amazing can’t regrow our coral or protect our kelp.
The ocean is full of Amazing. And now more than ever, Amazing needs you.
Every year, we train thousands of citizen scientist volunteers to survey coral reefs across the globe and kelp forests along the West Coast — because healthy reefs and healthy kelp forests are the foundation of a healthy ocean. And a healthy ocean is the foundation of everything else. That's why we do this.
