@reefcheckmalaysia has launched a new interactive reef health map that turns years of community science into real-time insights for conservation.

Built from surveys at more than 300 reef sites and powered by data collected by over 1,000 trained volunteer divers, this platform shows coral health trends, fish and invertebrate sightings, and location-based changes over time. Every data point is carefully verified using GPS coordinates and reviewed by marine scientists to ensure its accuracy.

This is what community science looks like in action. Data that guides protection, supports reef recovery, informs management decisions, and helps determine when reefs need a break to heal. It is proof that when people come together with purpose, technology becomes a tool for hope.

Curious how this map works and how technology is reshaping coral conservation around the world?

Our volunteer divers are pretty much cold plunging all season while they do the work of surveying dive sites, maintaining sensors, or helping with restoration projects. So now we’re asking you to cold plunge to help us continue this work.

What are we talking about?

Our friends at @surffur are hosting the Reef Check Freeze Off, a community event and fundraiser to raise awareness and money for our ocean conservation efforts.

Is this the first time you’re hearing of it? See details about how to participate at our link in bio.

Be brave. We know you can do it.

Survey season on the US West Coast may be winding down, but the science is just getting started. Our Winter Webinar Series is back, giving you a chance to see how your data, your dives, and your hours underwater are shaping real conservation outcomes across the West Coast.

From Puget Sound to Oregon to California, each session takes a closer look at the ecosystems you help monitor and the restoration work your efforts support. Whether you are curious about regional kelp communities, community-based urchin removal, Oregon’s restoration partnerships, or long-term trends in California fish assemblages, there is something for every ocean lover.

Winter Webinar Series Lineup:
January 13 | Kelp communities across Puget Sound basins
February 11 | Community based restoration in California
March 10 | Oregon kelp restoration and ORKA partnerships
April 7 | How the Marine Heat Wave reshaped California fish communities

Each talk runs from 6 to 7 pm PT and requires individual registration.

Join us, learn from the science you help generate, and stay connected through the winter months.

Register for all sessions at the link in our bio.
