We have one more upcoming survey weekend around Ensenada to help monitor Baja’s beautiful kelp forests.

Exciting news for the Puget Sound!
We are thrilled to announce that we’ve received funding through the EPA’s Puget Sound Funds to build capacity for community science and kelp forest monitoring.
This funding will allow us to:
1️⃣ Expand staff support
2️⃣ Host gatherings to unite partners in regional planning and knowledge sharing
3️⃣ Refresh training materials to grow community participation
Together, we’ll contribute to kelp restoration and habitat recovery in Puget Sound. Thank you to our partners and supporters for helping us continue this critical work!

Reef Check Malaysia Updates 👇
Big things are happening with our chapter in Malaysia.
🪸 Coral Bleaching: Good news! NOAA data shows warming waters are receding, but it doesn’t mean coral is safe. Data collection is still a #1 effort to support this fragile ecosystem.
🪼 UN Ocean Decade Conference: Our colleague Adzmin presented the Community-Based Coral Restoration Project at the UN conference in Barcelona, emphasizing a science-based approach to empowering local communities in marine conservation.
🌱 New Mersing Project: Seagrass monitoring + marine environmental programs are underway.
🚮 Waste Management: Local islanders are working on cost-effective solutions on Mantanani Island because despite the effort, transporting waste is still a financial burden.
🧹 Corporate Conservation: Tioman saw great collaborations with Watsons, KPMG, and SC Johnson on coral reef restoration, microplastic sampling, and crown of thorns cleanup.
