Artist's Description: Acclaimed marine life artist Wyland has been designated official artist for 2008 International Year of the Reef. To commemorate this event, he completed the official painting, Year of the Reef, on a 7-foot by 4-foot canvas that will be unveiled at an official ceremony with the artist on February 27 in Washington, DC. "I was honored to be selected as the official artist for IYOR 2008," Wyland says. "I wanted to feature Florida's radiant reef with all its variations of corals and multitude of colorful fish and sea life. Here, many of the soft and hard coral species are depicted in color, form, and detail. The green sea turtles are featured swimming above the reef along with a great hammerhead shark. All the animals depicted are authentic to Florida's undersea paradise." The artist considers it one of his best works to date. |
