The main goal of Reef Check’s International Photo Contest is to raise awareness of the value and plight of coral and rocky reefs worldwide, and through appreciation, persuade key constituencies to take actions to benefit these ecosystems.
Human survival depends on the health of the world’s oceans and coral reefs. For example, thousands of children are now being saved with Cytarabine, a new drug made from a Caribbean coral reef sponge and one of the most potent weapons in the fight against leukemia.
