In honor of the International Year of the Reef in 2008, Reef Check is requesting you to sign our Declaration of Reef Rights shown below. We would like to present the Declaration along with a list of one million names to all coral reef country governments in January 2009. The purpose of this pledge is to highlight the high value of coral reefs and to encourage all people and governments to support coral reef conservation. After reading the pledge please fill out the form below and encourage your friends to sign up. You must include your full name, country and an email – but if you want to be kept informed about progress on the Declaration and coral reefs, please fill out the complete form. 2008-07-08 Jehan Pieris SRI LANKA We need a Lot of Help in Sri Lanka as well, Sri Lanka's Biggest problem is it's profound Corruption in it's Administrative Structure and it's Beauracracy. It has been an almost impossible Dream to have Legistlation and Laws implemented in order to protect the reefs in Sri Lanka, Often the problem is that there are Certain loopholds within the Laws and many utilize these loopholds to cannibalize the reefs in Sri Lanka. My estimate is that the Destruction is around 95-96%, Due Human infringement, and the Tsunami. Sri Lanka needs a lot of Global pressure in order to implement very strict Laws to protect all marine enviorenment around the Island, we need your help and assistance as well as expertise asap.

2008-07-06 Michael Andersson New York UNITED STATES Thank you for bringing the subject of the threatened coral reefs to my attention. I had no idea that 70% of the world's coral reefs are in danger. This saddens me because the underwater visions I have seen on some nature channels look so beautiful and should not become extinct. I will pledge to continue to do my part to work towards ending global warming. I will be conscious of how any products I may use may be potential hazards to the coral population. Thank you.
