In honor of the International Year of the Reef in 2008, Reef Check is requesting you to sign our Declaration of Reef Rights shown below. We would like to present the Declaration along with a list of one million names to all coral reef country governments in January 2009. The purpose of this pledge is to highlight the high value of coral reefs and to encourage all people and governments to support coral reef conservation. After reading the pledge please fill out the form below and encourage your friends to sign up. You must include your full name, country and an email – but if you want to be kept informed about progress on the Declaration and coral reefs, please fill out the complete form. How sad that most damage done to this beautiful planet is done due to someone's GREED or because they simply do not stop to think for one moment, what possible impact their choices and behaviors will have on the space they are in at the moment. Greed causes humans and animals to go to sleep hungry in a world in which there is enough food to feed all who live and breath on this planet! Greed prompts people to spend money they do not have so as to acquire more than they truly need to exist and be HAPPY! Greed contributes to almost every tear shed and can add to those sorrows that occur by more natural means in indirect ways often times. Less is more...we have forgotten this...but it is true!
2008-07-28 Ron Stephen Ontario CANADA SOUND, NOISE is missing from this petition. All of the points are great but we also need to consider the effects of noise. I've heard that there is nowhere in the oceans worldwide that the whales can go to breed that they can't hear the noise from propellers. Who knows what effect this has on the reef!
