  Dear Reef Check Supporter,

Does it make you sad to hear about another coral reef being damaged by bleaching? Are you willing to sit by and watch as careless human activities destroy these invaluable treasures? We need your support to save our coral reefs.

The 3rd Global Coral Bleaching Event in history has caused serious damage to reefs from Indonesia to the Dominican Republic. Some 95% of shallow reefs have been killed in the Northern Great Barrier Reef.

Coral reefs have existed for 150 million years and will continue to survive after this event, but we all need to work harder to stop global warming and help reefs as we know them to survive.

Reef Check has taken the lead during this event, implementing an Emergency Response Plan to get teams out in the field and chairing a new Coral Reef Coalition to address the biodiversity disaster caused by bleaching.

With your support, we can continue to get teams in the water around the world to document the status and health of their local reefs, sources of livelihood and food for millions of people across the globe.

More importantly, we are investigating the only realistic avenue to increase the ability of corals to survive hot water using differences in the microscopic algae called zooxanthellae that live inside the coral tissue. Some genetic types of "zoox" are more resistant to heat than others and if we can increase their numbers in corals we can save reefs. We could not be more grateful for your support or more proud of what we have accomplished so far together.

Will you help?

Your gift today will help support our efforts in conservation, education, and research. It doesn't cost a lot to make a real difference:

- $25 can provide training materials for a Reef Check EcoDiver in Haiti.
- $50 purchases survey materials for an entire reef monitoring team in the Caribbean.
- $100 can cover the boat cost for 1 diver’s reef survey in the Red Sea.
- $250 covers the cost of a kids training in Southeast Asia.

Remember, for every dollar donated, it is multiplied many times by thousands of volunteers around the world.

Thank you for your support!
