Reef Check Foundation recently held an event of the same magnitude and scope to benefit Reef Check Hawaii. The event was held on December 9, 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and sponsors Vonage, Hawaiian Airlines and Sheraton Hotels each benefited greatly from extensive media coverage both during and after the event, as well as from their association with Reef Check Foundation’s highly lauded programs to protect and conserve the world’s coral reefs.

Reef Check Foundation’s Reef Rescue 2007 is designed to exceed the expectations that this event created through the active involvement of our Board of Directors (Honorary Chairman Leonardo DiCaprio) and our event committee which includes Daryl Hannah, Kelly Hu, Ben Goldhirsh, James Whitmore and Gale Anne Hurd (Terminator, Alien, The Abyss). It stands to achieve “party of the season” status and will provide the organization with an opportunity to reach thousands of young people with our message: act locally to save and conserve our oceans and reefs globally. Sponsors are currently being sought to invest early and generously in this sponsorship drive to enable Reef Check Foundation to continue its work to protect our oceans globally and the reefs right here on our California Coast.

Founded in 1997, Reef Check Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization which was established to reverse the coral reef crisis by using a business model to self-finance ocean conservation on a global scale. Reef Check programs provide ecologically sound and economically sustainable solutions for local businesses and communities, and thousands of volunteers participate in its programs in over 90 countries and territories. Reef Check provides solutions through the EcoAction, EcoExpeditions and Coral Reef Management programs and through Roving Research Teams of scientists who study coral reef health at remote locations worldwide. Reef Check California was launched last year to help conserve rocky reef life in our own state.

Funds raised from this event will be used by Reef Check to help conserve coral reefs and California rocky reef ecosystems, including several reef monitoring sites in Malibu, CA.
