Once again, the evening will feature amazing music, unique auction items, delicious food, and a chance to meet our honorees and some of the thousands of volunteer Reef Check EcoDivers who monitor Californian and tropical reefs as part of the Reef Check Foundation's citizen scientist programs. In appreciation of their dedication to the protection and preservation of the world’s oceans, reefs and marine life through their passionate advocacy on behalf of the environment, and Russ’ long service on the Reef Check Foundation Board of Directors.

Russ & Charlotte Lesser
Ocean Advocates

Russ Lesser, the President of Body Glove and a long-standing member of the Reef Check Foundation’s Board of Directors, and his wife of 50 years, Charlotte, are an extraordinary couple devoted to their family, friends, community - and marine conservation.

Russ has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus by every school he has attended since high school, including California State University at Long Beach. After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army as a first Lieutenant in the finance corps, then worked at Windes & McClaughry until he became the president of Body Glove International in 1990.

A native of Manhattan Beach, Russ has served two terms as Mayor and on the board of directors for the Independent Cities Association, Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, Grand Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association, St. Cross Episcopal Church Vestry, Small Craft Harbor Commission, 1736 Family Crisis Center and countless other organizations.

Russ, along with family and friends, make up the folk/rock band Thin Ice. They provided the theme song for the International Year of the Reef 2008, which has been sung by children’s choral groups around the world.

Charlotte was born and raised in New York and attended Skidmore College before transferring and graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Analytical Biology. She subsequently trained and received her license as a board certified Medical Technologist.

Like Russ, Charlotte is also actively involved in numerous organizations, including the St. Cross Episcopal Church, Manhattan Beach Neighborhood Watch, Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council, Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles County Commission for Women, the Association of California Commissions for Women, and many more. She recently served as the honorary chair of the American Heart Association's “Go Red for Women” campaign. She has received countless awards for her community service, including Woman of the Year for LA County and Citizen of the Year from the Manhattan Beach Lion’s Club.

Together, Russ and Charlotte have received the Rose and Scroll Award from the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and the South Bay Citizens of the Year by The Wellness Community. They also co-founded the Manhattan Beach 10K Run, which is ranked as one of the top 100 races in the country.

They have three wonderful children, Tim, Greg and Valerie and six grandchildren, some of whom perform with Russ and Thin Ice..
