Invited guests will arrive to a red-carpet entry featuring a Silent Auction with a limited number of high-end travel and ocean-related items.  Cocktail hour will feature island music and hula entertainment, followed by a seated island-themed dinner.  The “International Declaration of Reef Rights” will be read and signed by guests and dignitaries, and the Poseidon Award will be presented to internationally renowned marine biologist and current “explorer-in-residence” at National Geographic Dr. Sylvia Earle. The California Reef Rescue Award will be awarded to Malibu’s Daryl Hannah for her contributions to ocean conservation. Guests will view the West Coast Premiere of “Reef Inhabitants,” a stunning extravaganza of dance, music and multi-media art to raise awareness about the crisis affecting our oceans and coral reefs.  The live show features performances by the Celine Dion dancers and cellist Marc Langis, with musical score and video by Paolo Santos and choreography by Caroline Sicard.   A reef will be dedicated to Eddy Medora in perpetuity to recognize his contributions to Reef Check Foundation.

Reef Check Foundation recently held an event of the same magnitude and scope to benefit Reef Check Hawaii.  The event was held on December 9, 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and sponsors Vonage, Hawaiian Airlines and Sheraton Hotels each benefited greatly from extensive media coverage both during and after the event as well as from their association with Reef Check Foundation’s highly lauded programs to protect and conserve the world’s coral reefs.

Reef Check Foundation’s International Ocean Festival and movie screening is designed to exceed the expectations that this event created through the active involvement of our Board of Directors (Honorary Chairman Leonardo DiCaprio) and our event committee which includes Daryl Hannah, Kelly Hu, Ben Goldhirsh, James Whitmore and Gale Anne Hurd (Terminator, Alien, The Abyss, Incredible Hulk).  The Reef Rescue 2007 Dinner stands to achieve “party of the season” status and will provide the organization with an opportunity to reach thousands of young people with our message: act locally to save and conserve our oceans and reefs globally.  Sponsors are currently being sought to invest early and generously in this sponsorship drive to enable Reef Check Foundation to continue its work to protect our oceans globally and the reefs right here on our California Coast.

Founded in 1997, Reef Check Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization which was established to reverse the coral reef crisis by using a business model to self-finance ocean conservation on a global scale.  Reef Check programs provide ecologically sound and economically sustainable solutions for local businesses and communities, and thousands of volunteers participate in its programs in over 80 countries.  Reef Check provides solutions through the EcoAction, EcoExpeditions and Coral Reef Management programs and through Roving Research Teams of scientists who study coral reef health at remote locations worldwide.  Reef Check California was launched last year to help conserve rocky reef life in our own state.
